Job Summary

The Junior Accountant serves as the first line of defense to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial transactions. They possess in-depth knowledge of the minute details of every transaction entered into the General Ledger by various accounting clerks or program managers.


Job Duties

  • Play a role in daily accounting operations.

  • Process and post journal entries to ensure proper recording of all business transactions.

  • Manage accounts receivable, issue invoices, and follow up on payments.

  • Update and monitor the accounts payable system to ensure suppliers/vendors are paid within established time limits.

  • Respond to employee and supplier/vendor inquiries regarding payments.

  • Assist with basic reconciliations and monthly preparations of financial statements, including profit and loss statements, cash flow records, and balance sheets.

  • Assist with payroll activities (as required).

  • Assist with monthly bank reconciliation of all bank accounts and credit cards.

  • Assist with month-end close.

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting.

  • Handle assets management, including preparing and monitoring the fixed asset schedule.

  • Assist with tax and regulatory compliance.

  • Electronically file documents and ensure proper filing of accounting information and documents.

  • Support accountants in the preparation of financial reports.

  • Perform any other functions as assigned.


Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum.

  • Great attention to detail.

  • Minimum 1 year of accounting experience.

  • Demonstrable experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close.

  • Experience ensuring the integrity of the General Ledger.

  • Ability to work with little supervision.
