The main functions of the Youth Prevention Worker are to provide ongoing support and case management for youth clients involved in the justice system and to advocate for youth. Duties include intake with clients, attending court when needed, and visits with youth and families. The position reports to the Native Justice Manager, performs other related duties as assigned, and adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the Onion Lake Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Act as a youth client advocate in the court system.
Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the delivery of support services to youths.
Provide support and supervision for High-Risk Youth and Families.
Determine plans and effective strategies for youth to remain within community settings.
Work in conjunction with Saskatchewan Corrections and Public Safety Youth Workers.
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), manage a caseload of eight to ten youth persons (ages 12-17).
Maintain confidentiality.
Perform court work and Fine Options duties.
University diploma or degree from an accredited justice-related program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificate in Victim Offender Mediation, Resolving Conflict Constructively, Dispute Resolution, or Community Justice Forums would be an asset.
The ability to speak Cree is an asset.
Relevant training or experience within a related field.
Familiarity with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), court processes, etc.
Experience with the Restorative Justice Program, court system, and youth offenders.
Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian and Provincial Justice systems and First Nations justice developments.
Must have knowledge of First Nation culture, traditions, social issues, and customs.
Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Must have knowledge of computers and required software.
The ability to work independently.
Must live a sober and drug-free lifestyle.
Valid Class 5 driver's license, own vehicle, and must be willing to travel.
